Embracing the Slowness
This past week, we visited the stunning town of Squamish, surrounded by expansive mountains, mystical waterfalls, rich forest and some of the most idyllic picnic spots. Spring is coming to life all around us. Salmon berries are flowering their magenta petals and Elders are getting ready to gift their sweet flowering scent to those nearby. Dandelions are opening their sun-kissed faces, and Spruce tips, Horsetail, Fiddleheads, Stinging Nettle and Fireweed are all ready to emerge into their fullness. The pollinators are delighting in the unfurling abundance awaiting them, and so am I.
Now, as luck would have it, we have the honor of caring for a heavenly lakeside property on Vancouver Island for the remainder of Spring. This is our second Spring spent here, watching the Goslings hatch into little yellow puffs and grow quickly over the weeks. We sit on the edges of our seats as mama Geese protect their babies from the hungering hunters overhead, and sigh in relief when they make it back into the safe waters just in the nick of time. We spend most mornings journaling, enjoying a slow breakfast, and birdwatching, before easing into the work day. The garden is filled with tiny Hummingbirds, busy Swallows and blue skies peppered with Bald Eagles and Osprey. We spend our afternoons, kayaking alongside the resident Otter, and exploring the driftwood-covered beaches nearby. There is a very peaceful energy here, one that invites us to be quiet, breathe slowly, and be witness to the delicate patterns unfolding all around.
