Botanical Bath Orbs
Bath bombs (I much prefer to call them orbs) are one of the most welcomed gifts to receive and always enjoyable to use. There are so many variations and recipes out there but in their most simple preparation, all you need are a few ingredients that you likely already have on hand. I have tried many recipes and techniques for these and honestly, you do have to exercise your senses with this one. I’ve adapted this recipe from Brittany at the Homestead Challenge, as I found her technique to be the best.
Ingredients
1/2 Cup Citric Acid
1 Cup Baking Soda
1/4 Cup Epsom Salts
1/4 Cup Corn Starch or Arrow Root Powder
1 TBSP Sweet Almond Oil or Alternative
10-20 Drops Essential Oil (I love to use Saje diffuser blends like Tantra, Unwind, or Spa Day)
10-30 Sprays of Water or Herbal Tea
*You can also get creative and add crystals, dried flower petals, natural tints like blue pea powder, or natural mica for some sparkle.
Supplies
Mixing Bowl
Mixing Spoon/Fork for whisking
Metal sieve
Measuring Cups and Spoons
Bath Bomb Mold (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Sift Epsom salt, corn starch, and baking soda into a mixing bowl. Whisk together well.
Step 2: Stir in almond oil and essential oils.
Step 3: Spray with 5-10 sprays of water (mix as you spray).
Step 4: Once well combined, continue to spray mixture with water, one spray at a time, until you reach desired consistency. About 20 sprays or until it feels damp sand. It looks slightly loose, but you can pack it together. It will look dryer than you expect.
Step 5: NOW, mix in the citric acid until totally combined.
Step 6: Press mixture firmly into metal bath bomb mold, or form tightly with your hands.
Step 7: Let dry overnight on parchment paper and store in an airtight, dry container.
